Looking around the food shops in town over the last few days I have seen plenty of local produce. Lobsters seem to be readily available and less exotic but just as tasty sardines and mackerel. There are locally grown gooseberries for pies, creamy fool or to make a sauce to accompany the mackerel; healthy, tasty and unusual.

There has been some wonderful summer weather in Whitby over the last few days and whilst I have been enjoying the sunshine I have been running over the last post in my mind. My written word is much more formal than my face to face talk. The service offered here is about slow food, carefully prepared to suit the situation and the participants.
If you are looking at this because you have seen the advert in the Whitby Advertiser please look at the whole blog, there are some photos down the page and do phone or email so that we can discuss your occasion with you.

I have been asked to provide some sample menus and prices. I intend to provide a bespoke service meeting the customers needs depending on the season and the occasion, so here are a few ideas if I were planning some events to take place in the next few weeks.

  • A celebratory dinner party cooked where it will be served for 6-10 people might be

Parcels of Salmon steaks, new potatoes, braised lettuce, seasonal vegetables as available

Summer Pudding served with clotted cream

Approx £30 per head

  • Afternoon Tea @ £7 per head

Finger sandwiches with home made bread/rolls

Scones, jam and cream

Assorted cakes( made to customers choice)

I am always willing to incorporate vegetarian food and accommodate special diets. I have some good tried and tested gluten free recipes.

I think that Whitby and its environs are blessed with excellent food providers, sea food obviously but also butchers and game dealers green grocery and cheese. I will always try to use local seasonal food in my menus.

I can provide home made bread and other baked goods.

I will consider some other occasions and plan some menus accordingly and post them later.

These prices and ideas are only intended to be a guide.

Susans is based in Whitby, North Yorkshire however I am willing to consider events anywhere in the country if I am able to provide what the customer is seeking. This is a customer focused company aiming to provide bespoke menus to fit the occasion. I hope to use locally produced food as far as is possible and prepare the food where it is to be eaten.
I am also willing to act as a consultant for events, helping with quantities and arrangements.
I have experience catering for numbers up to 200 and am especially interested in providing food (and if required decor) for celebrations in peoples' homes or holiday accommodation.

May weekend

These photographs show the preparation for a meal for 100 dancers in a village hall on the hottest weekend of the year so far.

The menu included chicken with lemon and garlic, new potatoes and salad,( with an aubergine alternative for non-meat eaters) followed by Eton Mess, Lemon meringue Pie and bread and butter pudding.

During the weekend the dancers also enjoyed soup with home made bread, local cheese and fruit and on the Saturday afternoon when they returned following a days dancing tea and home made cake.
